Packers CB Jaire Alexander hints he'll be traded this offseason

Packers two-time Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander has been one of the better cornerbacks in the league over the past few years. But after a down season in 2023, he may have played his last down for Green Bay. He seems to believe that's the case.

On Tuesday night, the 26-year-old made a post on Instagram that looked like a farewell to the team he's spent the first six years of his NFL career with.

"Thank you God. Thank you Lambeau, for 6 years. Thank you to those who showed love throughout my journey," he wrote.

Alexander hasn't had the 2023 season he likely imagined, posting just 27 tackles, one forced fumble and five passes defensed in seven games played. He was also suspended by the team for one game following the Week 16 game against the Panthers.

Alexander was not designated as a team captain but chose to participate in the coin toss, call the toss and then incorrectly told the referee that he wanted his team to be on defense, potentially forcing Green Bay to kick off to start both halves.

Head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Alexander's suspension wasn't based solely on his coin toss actions, although it played a large role.

"It's never for one thing," LaFleur said. "I think there's a lot of lessons along the way from everybody involved and, hopefully, we learn from them. I think we will. I think there will be probably better communication moving forward."

If the Packers are preparing to move on from Alexander, it will have to be through a trade, however. Alexander still has three years left on his contract and has a cap hit of $23.98 million in 2024, per Spotrac. Cutting him seems to be out of the question.

But Alexander will likely have several suitors if Green Bay does make him available via a trade. His career-high five interceptions in 2022 should give some teams hope that he has good football left in him.
