There weren’t high expectations for rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci and his Dallas Cowboys heading into “Sunday Night Football” Week 8 against an equally pedestrian Philadelphia Eagles team.
Coming into the Sunday night matchup, Dallas had lost two consecutive games by the combined score of 63-13. The Cowboys had lost their top two starting quarterbacks, Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton, to injury.
Even then, what we saw from the Dallas Cowboys on national television seemingly brought football back decades. That’s not even hyperbole.

We’re not even sure where to begin with that one. Regardless of whether the call on the field should have stood, this had to be accompanied with Benny Hill music. Alas, someone will make that come to fruition.
This was the part of a larger performance from the Cowboys that saw them fall to the Eagles by the score of 23-9. It also included this intentional safety (that’s a thing) for good measure.

Making his first NFL start, DiNucci put up 180 net passing yards on 40 attempts. Ezekiel Elliott averaged 3.3 yards per attempt. Amari Cooper was not targeted until the fourth quarter.
The Dallas Cowboys have now been outscored 86-22 over the past three games. They are now 2-6 on the season.
It’s obviously going to make those questioning first-year head coach Mike McCarthy’s performance even more boisterous heading into a Week 9 outing against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.
The NFL world had its reactions to Sunday night’s hilariously bad performance from America’s Team.

The coaches trusted that debacle + giving the eagles two points over the Cowboys offense getting 17 yards lol

That was intentional, but the 2020 Cowboys just became the first team in franchise history to allow three safeties in same season. And it took only eight games. Dallas simultaneously has too many safeties and not enough of them.

One really now has to wonder where the Cowboys go from here. We’re going to hear a lot coming out of Big D in the coming days. Perhaps, owner Jerry Jones looks to shake things up.
Regardless, this is among the worst stretches of games we’ve seen from the Dallas Cowboys in some time.
