Longhorns Tight End Ja'Tavion Sanders Injured vs. Kansas
USA TODAY Sports

AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns came out on fire against the Kansas Jayhawks in the first quarter on Saturday afternoon, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead.

However, things took a turn for the Longhorns on their next drive, with star tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders being forced to leave the game with an apparent lower-body injury with just over two minutes to go in the quarter.

Sanders came up limping after getting rolled up on by running back Jonathon Brooks second down in the Red Zone, and while he was able to get off of the field under his own power, he was in considerable pain.

After making his way to the sideline, Sanders then immediately entered the injury tent.

He is currently questionable to return.

Through four games (three with at least one catch) entering Saturday's matchup, Sanders is tied with Colorado State's Dallin Holker for first among tight ends in the country with 268 receiving yards, which also leads the Longhorns. Holker has proven to be a weapon with four touchdowns compared to just one for Sanders, but the Texas pass-catcher has done so on just 12 catches compared to Holker's 22 grabs.

Sanders' receiving total is currently higher than that of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers (256), who has been widely regarded as the best tight end in college football, and for good reason.

Before the injury, Sanders had one catch for 10 yards.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
